Laurids Sonne is a Danish documentary media artist, researcher, and organizer who works with representational media, including moving and still images, installation work, and sound. His work strives to develop new visual and sonic approaches for rethinking documentary practices. His work looks at observational and extractive practices and their technologies and entanglement with systems of knowledge, through the history and philosophy of science.
He was a member of the four-person international art collective Parfyme for a decade, working with relational and social-based processes; developing new platforms for community, interaction, and exploration. Since 2020, Sonne has been curating and organizing cultural events under the moniker S3026, along with Nima Bahrehmand. In addition to their curatorial practice, they also collaborate on moving images and installation work.
Sonne’s work has been presented internationally: at festivals, art institutions, and across land and public spaces; among others at Manifesta 8 (Murcia), The Dakar Biennial, Sequences Real-Time Festival, Nikolaj Copenhagen Contemporary Art Center, Kunsthal Charlottenborg, HEART - Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, Kunstmuseum Brandts and Seoul National University Museum of Art, San Francisco International Film Festival, Sharjah Film Platform, Montreal Underground Film Festival, ICDOCS, Florida Experimental Film/Video Festival, and Antimatter[media art].
